Held on Sunday July 15th at The Queens College Theatre, Taunton, the 2012 South West very nearly had the biggest entry in its 6 year history with a total of 37 top quality competitors taking the stage to contest the honours (last year was the record with 39 entries). An incredible Henry Elsom successfully defended his Masters and Overall titles, even improving on his showing from 2011, and will be a major threat at the NPA Britain Finals of 2012 without a doubt!

Invites to the 2012 NPA Britain Finals go to the top 2 in all classes, apart from the Novices, Trained Figure, and Men’s Lightweights, with the invites extended to the top 3 placings in these classes.

NPA STATEMENT:At the recent NPA South West Championships held in Taunton on Sunday 15th July, the Heavyweight class winner, Abdul Rehman, having been subjected to a drug test by way of urinalysis, failed due to the presence of a banned stimulant, Methylhexanaemine, in his sample. Mr. Rehman was offered the option of having the B sample tested at his own expense but declined this option and was very co-operative with the subsequent NPA investigation. It is likely that the banned stimulant was found in either a pre workout energy drink or a fat burning supplement. Methylhexaneamine is classified as a specified stimulant under the 2012 Prohibited List of the World Anti-Doping Code.
As a result of the positive test, Abdul Rehman has been stripped of his title from the 2012 NPA South West Championships and has been banned from the NPA for a period of 1 year from the date of the contest.
We would like to add that Mr. Rehman was very co-operative with the NPA in our enquiries and has obviously used over the counter supplements without checking the ingredients. As a consequence of this, Rob Harris is promoted to first place, and on behalf of the NPA we would like to offer our belated congratulations to Rob, who is an outstanding Champion, and a great supporter of Natural Bodybuilding with his Progress Gym in Yeovil, Somerset. Phil Keyte is moved up to second place. The trophy situation will be dealt with in due course.
