NPA BRITISH FINALS 2009...VINCE MWAYI and CAROL STREETER take the Overall titles!

NPA British Championships 2009

Report by Michael Phillips with photography by Eric Guy & Fivos Averkiou

There were 90 competitors’ names in the NPA Britain 2009 programme on Sunday October 25th, but the final number was 81 – a record for any NPA competition, with an extremely high standard throughout every class. Held for the second year at The Royal Spa Centre in Leamington Spa, the NPA British Finals XI had 3 Champions returning to defend their titles, but it was one Champion who hasn’t competed in the competition since 2004 who dominated and deservedly took home the Men’s Overall title.

Sponsored by Udo’s Choice, CNP Professional, EAS-UK Performance Nutrition, and Maximuscle, on behalf of all connected to the NPA, I thank all four of these companies for their great support – long may it continue, as that support is invaluable!

Big congratulations to Vince Mwayi and Carol Streeter, two outstanding Champions, both great representatives of the NPA and of Natural Bodybuilding.

Judges

Roy Jones, Ann Gardner, Karen Mason, Yoyo Butler, Andrew Palmer, Jon Harris,  Michael Phillips

NPA Doping Control Officers

Lee Kemp, Kim McNair, Jon Bibb

Lee also supervised the polygraphing at the competition.

Michael Hannam, 2008 NPA Overall British and 2009 Mike Williams Pro-Am Champion gave a fantastic guest posing routine, well received by the audience. Three weeks after this contest, Michael won the INBF World Championships in America, so its fair to say he’s had a good 12 months! He travelled to New York, for the INBF World Championships, with Steve Davies, Wayne Braddock, and Carol Streeter, to make up a formidable British foursome. Steve got 4th, Carol 2nd, and Wayne a fantastic 1st place in the Heavyweights, with Michael taking the Middleweight and Overall titles, so well done all!

Many thanks to all who were there; sponsors, judges, competitors, officials, helpers, and audience – your support is much appreciated!
